Interior Community Services (ICS) is working on a proposal with its partners to help fill the increasing need for affordable housing in Kamloops.

In July of 2018, Interior Community Services was awarded funding through the Province’s Building BC: Community Housing Fund (CHF) to further pursue the planning and development of their vacant parcels of land at 400, 404 and 410 Tranquille Rd. While the project has faced challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, design plans and budgets are now being reviewed. ICS hopes to begin construction in late 2022 or early 2023.

“ICS clearly sees the need and value of affordable housing now more than ever.  We are excited this project will be able to provide safe, affordable homes for seniors, families with low to moderate incomes and individuals with diverse abilities, and simultaneously help our community recover from the pandemic,” said Kelly Kelland CEO at Interior Community Services.

The project development involves the construction of a six-story building with 44 units of affordable housing above a main floor of commercial office space. The design includes a mix of one, two- and three-bedrooms units, as well as several accessible units.

“We believe investments like this housing project will undoubtedly create a more vibrant neighbourhood within the Tranquille corridor. Interior Community Services is thankful of all our partners’ commitment and involvement in the project. We look forward to continue enriching lives and strengthening our community together with the development of this housing project.”

ICS is a multi-service agency that has provided support and affordable housing to youth, individuals with diverse abilities, seniors, and families for over 50 years. ICS manages over 350 units of housing in various communities in B.C. including Kamloops, 100 Mile House, and Chase.
